Bio

I am a Singer Songwriter based in London, UK. and mainly write catchy Pop/Rock, Introspective Folk and other genres. I teach songwriting at www.LondonSongwriters.org

I perform live, having played prestigious venues in London, LA and Nashville.

I have an MMus Masters Degree in Songwriting from Bath Spa University, a PTLLS teaching qualification from Community Music and I have organised and facilitated the London Songwriters Workshop Group, as well as other Songwriting Workshops and Residential Retreats, for the last six years with pretty near 100% positive public feedback 🙂

My history:

I was born on the threshold of the 60s and absorbed the 3-minute pop songs of the day. I also saw The Beatles live at The Hammersmith Odeon.

After I got my first guitar at age 12 I was always interested in writing songs which would have the same effect on others that popular songs had on me. I progressed through school covers bands in the 70s to writing more New Wave and Soul inspired material.

Out of that grew an interest in Jazz and I was a writer/guitarist in a successful Soul Jazz band in the 80s (see Gallery video). We played venues such as The Astoria, The Hammersmith Palais, The Town and Country Club, The Bracknell Jazz Festival and The Soho Jazz Festival. The latter was filmed by Channel 4 (shown twice at peak times) and we had a single out which was a cover version of ‘Mission Impossible’ on CBS Records. The band featured a great singer called Linda Muriel who went on to front The Brand New Heavies and Incognito. We attracted interest from Paul Weller and Gilles Peterson.

Later I concentrated on songwriting and recording, attending songwriting retreats with writers such as Ray Davies and studying the craft of modern pop and country in the UK and USA, culminating in an MMus Masters Degree in Songwriting from Bath Spa University. I have carried that knowledge and analytical discipline into my current teaching/facilitation role and continue to write catchy modern pop as well as moving introspective folk material.

My self-produced tracks feature on CD-released albums commemorating the Shakespeare 400 centenary as well as World Cup and Christmas compilations, being part of a project series featured in The Guinness Book Of Records.
